Click it or Ticket campaign begins May 18

The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office is joining forces with hundreds of other Florida law enforcement agencies and across the nation in an effort to remind motorist to buckle up. During the Click It or Ticket Campaign, May 18 – May 31, 2015, deputies will be cracking down on drivers, demonstrating a zero-tolerance, for those riding in vehicles not wearing safety belts.

“As we approach Memorial Day weekend and the summer vacation season..., we want to make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a crash, buckling up”, said Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden. “Properly wearing your safety belt is the best way to saves lives and for the drivers to protect their passengers.”

Research conducted indicates that safety belt usage statewide in Florida is at 88.8% and is above the national level of 87%.
Buckle up every time you get in your vehicle. Do it to protect yourself and others. If you already wear your safety belt, keep it up.

We want to remind drivers that failure to wear your safety belt is a primary offense in Florida. The new primary law allows officers to stop motorists for not wearing safety belts.

“It isn’t about citations; it’s about saving lives. We want to make Hendry County a safe place for drivers and their passengers”, said Sheriff Whidden. “Please buckle up, it’s the law”.
