The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office does not have a vast amount of navigable waters within its jurisdiction however the portions of these waterways that are contained within Hendry County do comprise a portion of the Okeechobee Waterway which links the East Coast of Florida to the West Coast of Florida. Because of this Hendry County does experience a significant amount of vessel traffic through these waterways.
In addition to this Lake Okeechobee and the Caloosahatchee River offer numerous recreational activities to both the citizens of Hendry County as well as those who visit our county. The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office has recognized both of these waterways as but a small portion of a larger natural resource that we must do our part to protect.
The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is responsible for conducting patrols, responding to calls for service, enforcing marine laws, and conducting investigations for incidents that may take place on the waterways within the county. The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Marine unit works closely with the other state and federal agencies who also patrol these waters to ensure we are doing our best to protect this natural resource and make our waterways as safe as possible.
