The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office maintains a full time K-9 unit to assist Deputies in a wide variety of situations.  Canine teams are trained for a particular objective with extensive training prior to any operation and continuous weekly training to maintain the highest level of efficiency.

The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office canines are considered certified Deputies and members of the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office.  The canines live with their respective handlers and become a part of the family.

The canine teams are assigned throughout the county and are called upon to conduct building and area searches, track suspects, aid in finding missing persons, and are used in other capacities where the canine and its handler can provide unique and specialized assistance to the Patrol Deputy.  Canines are most frequently called upon to perform task to dangerous for people to do. Currently the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office canines are trained for the following tasks:

  • Tracking suspects
  • Detecting Narcotics
  • Crowd Control Search and rescue of victims and missing persons
  • Community demonstrations
